The American Heart Association’s BLS for Healthcare Providers Online Part 1 Course, Web-based and accessible 24 hours a day, provides a flexible alternative to classroom training. Through case-based scenarios, interactive activities and videos, this course teaches the concepts of both single-rescuer and team basic life support.
Audience:
Healthcare professionals who need to know how to perform CPR, as well as other lifesaving skills, in a wide variety of in-hospital and out-of-hospital settings.
Course Content:
• Key changes in basic life support, reflecting new science from the 2015 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care
• Critical concepts in high-quality CPR
• The American Heart Association Chain of Survival
• 1-rescuer CPR and AED for adults, children and infants

Part 1 must be paired with a hands-on skills practice and testing session (Parts 2 and 3) with an AHA BLS Instructor. Students who successfully complete Part 1 receive a certificate that allows them entrance into a skills practice and testing session. An AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers course completion card will be issued upon successful completion of all three parts.

Click here to purchase skills evaluationThe BLS Instructor Essentials Course is designed to prepare instructor candidates to teach AHA Instructor-led and blended
learning courses. The course educates instructor candidates on how to adequately use AHA Instructor teaching materials,
ensure that students meet learning objectives, offer student coaching skills, provide an objective skills performance evaluation,
and follow AHA Instructor and course policies. The course covers core content and discipline-specific content required to
teach AHA courses.
The BLS Instructor Essentials Course is taught in a blended learning format. AHA BLS Instructor candidates must complete
the online portion, followed by the hands-on session conducted by BLS Training Center Faculty.
Prior to taking this course, candidates must have a current BLS Provider course completion card. Candidates who successfully
complete the BLS Instructor Essentials Course, followed by course monitoring, will receive a BLS Instructor card, valid for two
years. BLS Instructors are then able to teach the BLS Provider course and any course within the Heartsaver portfolio.

The AHA’s Instructor Essentials courses are online, self-directed, discipline-specific courses that teach information needed to instruct classroom courses and conduct skills practice and skills testing sessions for eLearning courses associated with each discipline. They replace the Instructor Essentials Classroom course which has been discontinued. Completion of the AHA Instructor Essentials Course is a required step toward becoming an AHA Instructor. It is also a requirement for current Instructors adding a discipline and all AHA Faculty (National, Regional and Training Center Faculty).
